A golden-colored doodle is a pretty, lovable, and a friendly dog. It was first produced in 1960s by breeding a Poodle and a Golden Retriever, from where it also derived its name Golden Doodle. Depending on the size of the Poodle dogs, the Golden Doodles were produced in different sizes. It took the characteristics from both the breeds and became a dog with unique traits.

As the name shows, Golden Doodle is a golden-colored beautiful furry dog. It has a hypoallergenic and non-shedding coat. It comes in different sizes as miniature, medium, as well as large or standard Golden Doodle which attracts the pet lovers more. The standard golden doodle can reach the length of up-to 24 inches and weighs about 50-90 pounds. It exhibits the traits and characteristics of both of the parent dogs.

It is very friendly, social, and an energetic dog. It loves to play with its owners, children, and other pets or animals. Social life is needed for its rehabilitation otherwise it is prone to separation anxiety.  It is always ready to do exercises and trainings. History

In 1969, a golden doodles was produced for the first time by Monika Dickens by crossbreeding two different breeds. Later in Mini golden doodle were first bred in the mid 1990s, the golden doodles were widely produced in United States and Australia by breeding Poodles and Golden Retrievers. The purpose of this breeding was to develop a dog with some alternative characteristics of a poodle. But the golden doodles are not recognized as a separate breed by Kennel clubs.

Feeding and Nutrition of a Golden Doodle

As goldendoodle is prone to health conditions like heart diseases, so always feed it with small and frequent meals twice daily. The young doodles need more meals than adults so give them meals three times a day. Avoid overfeeding and don’t train your doodles immediately after feeding.

10% of their diets should be based on treats and other diet should be nutritious. They require adequate amount of energy and protein don’t give more energetic meals to them even they are active and energetic.

If your pet is healthy and normal don’t give it additional supplements along with optimal diet.

Care and Grooming of a GoldenDoodle

Golden doodle does not require much care and grooming. As it is a friendly and social pet it needs to do more activities, exercises and trainings. Spare some time to play with your furry doodles. Daily about 30 minutes are required for their activities like walking, running, or swimming. They are also trained as guide and rescue dogs.

As golden doodle has long hair but it does not shed much. Little care and grooming are needed for its long hair and coat. Although it is less-allergenic, proper bathing, trimming and brushing pr week is required to avoid any pathogens and allergens.

Health-Related Issues of a Golden Doodle

Golden doodles are considered healthy and active and are less likely to inherit the diseases of their parents. But they are also prone to some diseases and health conditions like other dogs. Some of the common diseases are:

Eye conditions like cataracts and glaucoma can affect the golden doodles. If your pet shows symptoms like blur vision, redness in eyes, dilated pupils, or watery eyes, it may have these eye diseases. Consult the veterinarian immediately to start treatment of your furry friend.

If your golden doodle shows reduced activity, avoid playing or even avoid to walk and stand, it may have developed hip dysplasia. Another common disease which can affect your golden doodle is heart disease. The heart muscles or valves can become narrow causing obstruction. In this case, consult the veterinarian for proper treatment of your golden doodle.

Skin allergiesare also common in some golden doodles. Ear infections like bacterial infections may develop in golden doodle’s ears if not properly clean.

How to Buy a Golden Doodle

You can buy a golden doodle from a local pet shop. If you want to buy it in less amount you can search for pet shelter homes or pet rescues, however, it needs more care and grooming if you adopt if from animal shelter homes.

Cost of a Golden Doodle

You must have $2000 to $3000 if you have to buy a golden doodle from a pet shop or a breeder. It will cost less if you adopt it from shelter or rescue.
